Fishcrow on Wikipedia

A reference to Fishcrow's "evidence" recently appeared briefly on the Wikipedia Ivory-billed Woodpecker page.

I'm not sure if this link will work, but here is the edit, which appears to have remained on Wikipedia for some 13 hours or so.

This text was added:
The failure of the expedition may have been due to the fact that the searchers were on foot. A solo searcher moving quietly in a kayak obtained video of an Ivory-billed Woodpecker in the Pearl in February 2006 [http://www.fishcrow.com/winter06.html].
It looks like that edit was done via a first-time Wikipedia contribution from IP address 132.250.146.71; a reverse DNS lookup on that address resolves to ""vireo.nrl.navy.mil".

Coincidentally, in this posting, Mike Collins provides an email address ending in "nrl.navy.mil".

Ahhh...the fiscrow flies again. Wondered what happened to him.

So now his "evidence" is apparently proven in his mind. The bird in his video is a definite IBWO. And I thought his site was just practical joke. Guess I was wrong.

Good man, that fischrow, I would urge him to get back out there and keep collecting evidence. But this time go farther back in there and stay at least a month back there. In full Ghillie Suit, of course. A Super Stealth Lord God Bird demands no less.

Who ever came up with the term "Fitzcrow" is the genius in this whole tawdry episode.

I bow before ye!!!

Aren't you overdoing it a bit with this CSI mentality and doing your "reverse DNS lookups". Just be patient and let the facts reveal themselves without your constant interpolations and whining. You are not a scientist by any stretch of the imagination.

Obtaining an image that causes one to exclaim "Oh, my God!! It's an Ivory-billed Woodpecker" is something that clearly has yet to happen.
My first thought upon seeing the recent Fishcrow evidence is "Don't quit your day job.". It also made me realize that the 17 authors of the "rediscovery" paper might want to think about pursuing any hobbies they may have as a full-time career, i.e. they should quit their day jobs.

Actually, doing a "reverse DNS lookup" is not the spooky, difficult, time-consuming dark art that you may imagine. I can do several in less time than it took you to type in your comment. (For example, just cut-and-paste an IP address into the box on this page .)

By the way, I do have a Masters of Science degree in electrical engineering. I've actually spent a fair amount of time in "labs" working with "data", testing "hypotheses", using "logic", etc.

A fish is just a fish
A crow is just a crow
But a Fitzcrow is a lovely dish
Which can deliver a deadly blow
To skeptics that tolerate
Any and all debate

Good sleuthing, I say.

But really, was it necessary? Who but Fishcrow would have tried to add that edit to Wiki?

I mean really. From now on let's treat it just like we do the IBWO. Until we have real evidence, we Skeptics will not believe. And as corollary, from now on any postings to Wiki or elsewhere that puport to be evidence based on Pearl sightings will be assumed to be by Fishcrow.

There now....I've saved us some work.

Only 8 more days folks until the great fun begins!!!!

Fishcrow will go down in the annals of bigfoot evidence just for his "white leading edge" photo.

Have you guys looked at that? I swear that I have seen pictures of little green aliens that are better than his photo.

My kid came in one day and found me laughing so hard that tears were just pouring out. She asked me what I was laughing at so hard and I showed her www.fishcrow.com.

I should pay that guy for all the fun that site has given me!!!

Baloney. Revealing the science fiasco of this IBWO "rediscovery" has taken a great deal of research and digging, and science, and no one has done more work than Tom Nelson.

Beyond that, it seems clear that his scientific interpretations are being proven a great deal more accurate than Cornell's.

Methinks Mr. Nelson that you may have enraged the Crow!

Now I too spent a moment or two going through his bio. Boy that fella sure gives a lot of papers! WOW! Hard to believe that he has the time for doing such thorough research on the Pearl River IBWOs, hugh?

Then I had to give pause to a really creepy thought...you don't think that the navy actually uses his bioacoustics information do you? Is it possible that there are real people floating around in submarines that actually use any science generated by this fella?

We can only that if that is true, that he is a better acoutical engineer that he is a birder, otherwise....Yikes!

And tuck that shirt in Nelson, in this man's Navy we need to look ship-shape.

Proof Positive that you are a sith lord ... only the sith deal in absolutes ...

Harrison has evolved into Yoda, living deep in the

Tom Nelson has drawn his hood up over his face and is mouth breathing while he does dark reverse lookups ...

Harrison has spurned the rational and objective and Fitzcrow is lining up the True Believers for the fall in order to not "lay an egg" ... these suckers don't even see it comming.

"...You are not a scientist by any stretch of the imagination."

What is a scientist anyway? Someone with a degree? Or better, a degree and a reputation? Or is it some one who can bring objective and rational thinking to bear on a question? Are people who insist that the IBWO persists despite the utter lack of unambiguous evidence scientists?

Maybe the IBWO will yet be found but that won't mean that the evidence presented thus far was proof. And it certainly doesn't mean that the attitudes, decisions and actions adopted were the right and proper way to proceed.

This blog has done a great service in questioning the claims of Fitzpatrick et.al., and "...constant interpolations and whining" is the correct response to this pathetic debacle, especially since so much public money is involved (along with the other things at stake).

Oh - a military email address. Well this explains much. Fishcrow doesn't have a day job or even a real job. He lives in a trough of government funds that covers his room, board and other expenses. Similar to the 17 "rediscovery" authors who live in the public/private donation trough.
So all those WMD/IBWO analogies are even more apropos that I thought.

I am sinking into the abiss

Of the universal background hiss

Over there a faraway knock

And nearby a kent for luck

But now I can’t yet decide

Who it is that saw or lied

I promise that if I ever see

I will shoot him out of the tree

It is the only way

I’ll ever make the Skeptics day

Signed,

The True Believer

Fishcrow Fishcrow he's our man
His video is in demand.

He kayaks through the swamp by day
and deinterlaces the night away

Sure it's grainy, sure it's crude
but that won't stop our NASA dude.

He trusts Cornell to 'get it right',
And for this goal, he will fight.

But Fish, pray tell, what did they say?
When you showed your masterpiece on Tuesday?

Did they confirm an IBWO there?
or did they just pull out their hair?

I'm sorry friend. I know it's tough.
When video is not enough.
Of course if you could get closer
we wouldn't think your were a poser.

And sorry too about your boat.
That couldn't seem to stay afloat
your birdforum friends did all pitch in.
to get you in the swamp again.

I'll stop this now, it's getting silly.
I must put on my suit of ghillie.

I must go out and find that bird.
Is that a kent that I just heard?

Or the double-knocky things profound
that tell Fitzcrow the bird's around.

So have some fun, Tom Nelson groupies.
Drink some wine, but don't get loopy

You may mis-ID this special bird.
and then resort to points absurd.

Knowing the scientific and financial value of a clear and indisputable picture/video of an IBWP, what kind of idiot would expend the time, money, and effort traipsing around in swamps with a crappy camcorder KNOWING that if he did get a recording, it would be contestable? If I really believed I was going to see an IBWO, I'd make sure I had suitable audio video equipment. That is unless I just wanted to deceive people. Let's all chip in and buy Mike a new camcorder. Egads....

You guys are morons. Fishcrow has a doctorate from Northwestern and received his bachelors at MIT. He is a great scientist and the term is FISHCROW not Fitzcrow.
