ICTs vital to deal with climate change, says UN chief
GENEVA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) are very vital to confronting the global problems caused by climate change, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said here on Monday.

"We all know that ICTs have revolutionized our world ... ICTs are also very vital to confronting the problems we face as a planet: the threat of climate change," Ban told the opening of a world exhibition focusing on the ICT sector.

Modern life really sucks, unless you count unbelievable advances in health care coverage and technology, the ability to put mankind on the moon (and, hopefully, beyond), potable drinking water, increasing literacy, advances in the arts, increasing democracy abroad and the attendant benefits.

Another scientist at the heart of the temperature-reconstruction effort, Michael Mann of Pennsylvania State University, said that if Mr. McIntyre wants to be taken seriously he has to move more from blogging to publishing in the refereed literature.

“Skepticism is essential for the functioning of science,” Dr. Mann said. “It yields an erratic path towards eventual truth. But legitimate scientific skepticism is exercised through formal scientific circles, in particular the peer review process.” He added: “Those such as McIntyre who operate almost entirely outside of this system are not to be trusted.”

On Friday, Oxfam honored three women for taking action on climate change. Honorees included Senator Barbara Boxer, California EPA Secretary Linda Adams and other government officials.

  1. Any paper that McIntyre submits will be sent directly to Mann for review. The rejection will be automatic. This is the system that Mann supports.

    BTW, Mann's parents were hardcore socialists. Why doesn't some investigative reporter look into it?
