All thumbs, none green : Columbia Journalism Review
When the Green blog closed, a farewell post encouraged readers, “Please watch for environmental policy news on the Caucus blog and energy technology news on the Bits blog.” As of Monday afternoon, however, the Caucus had posted four pieces about the environment out of 60 total since the Green blog folded, and Bits had posted four out of 81 total. By comparison, in the last couple weeks of its life, the Green blog (which didn’t get a lot of traffic, according to my sources) was averaging three to four posts per day.
Even scientists are cooling on climate change | Former Tory Minister Ann Widdecombe
We were the only MPs to vote against the 2008 Climate Change Bill, which is to say we had by then considered all the evidence and found it wanting.
For years we have endured insults.
...Well the dissenters have now been proved right.
Heaven knows how many billions of pounds later the world is now being told that actually the warming is so far off predictions that all bets are off and indeed the world’s temperature is static or falling.
So all those wind farms were in vain, as were all those expensive carbon-saving measures inflicted on industry and passed on in costs to you and me.
If I could tell that from the published Hadley Centre figures, the scientists must have known for years yet only now do they admit it. Why?

Poll: President Obama voters don't want Keystone - POLITICO.com Print View
Opposition is especially strong among Obama voters age 18 to 29, according to the survey conducted by Public Policy Polling. More than 60 percent think he would be breaking his promises if he OKs the pipeline — and 16 percent would feel betrayed.
...
For the electorate as a whole, 50 percent of people surveyed said they approve of Keystone after being read a series of facts [what "facts", specifically?] concerning the pipeline, Karnas said, while 42 percent disapproved and 8 percent are unsure. That’s much different from a recent Fox News poll that said 70 percent of registered voters support building the pipeline.
...
More than 60 percent of young Hispanic voters said they weren’t that concerned about the pipeline’s environmental, climate change, greenhouse gas or water and wildlife impacts.

“Many cities, especially in developing countries, are very quickly expanding, and often expanding in hazard-prone areas,” explained Francis Ghesquiere, manager for the World Bank's Disaster Risk Management Practice Group.

"It is carbon emissions that are the big killer in Nigeria with approximately 150,000 people dying each year due to indoor smoke ingestion, tuberculosis and lung cancer. the reason for the indoor smoke is partially because of uneven electricity distribution, which forces many Nigerians to heat their homes and cook by burning fuels," the report said.

McKibben’s plea that we not waste time pointing out the incongruity of those who urge us to cut back on our meat consumption, or change to energy efficient light bulbs whilst they enjoy the most opulent and extravagant lifestyles themselves (no matter how many solar panels they may have on their roof) is the most brazen hypocrisy of all. It would allow the Gores, Kleins, and Chris Martins of this world to continue their jet-setting around the world, their fat incomes and their huge homes. As McKibben would have it, when those of us who work, pay taxes and struggle to heat our homes as the cost of electricity soars, point to the hypocrisy of being told by the man in 33 room mansion (Coldplay’s Chris Martin) or the man in the private jet (James Cameron) that our actions are destroying the world, we will be met with a reassuring verbal pat on the back and the assurance that all of that doesn’t really matter. What matters, if we were to believe McKibben’s redefinition of hypocrisy, is that they care. They get it. They’re working to change the system.

Polar bear distribution shows they are limited by winter ice extent | polarbearscience
I’ve said it before but it’s worth saying again now that the sea ice in the Arctic is approaching its seasonal maximum extent and thickness: polar bears are limited by winter sea ice extent (Fig.1), not by the minimum extent of ice in the summer. Otherwise, their distribution would resemble the summer sea ice minimum (Fig. 2), not the winter maximum.

New National Weather Service Director Louis Uccellini suggests that global warming causes snowstorms

Weather Service chief: We face 'new normal' of extremes
The onslaught of wild weather that has battered the USA in recent years - from Hurricane Sandy and deadly tornado outbreaks to extremes of drought and floods -- looks to be part of a "new normal" for weather patterns in the U.S., new National Weather Service Director Louis Uccellini said Wednesday.
...Uccellini cautioned that he doesn't think there are enough cases of extreme weather yet to prove the hypothesis.
...
The extreme weather, surprisingly, may even include winter storms, such as the ones that have hammered the Northeast Coast this winter.

"We have observed more snowstorms and heavy rain events that have been extreme," he said, due to the fact that a warming atmosphere can "hold more water vapor that can increase the intensity of storms."
...The science of attributing extreme weather to climate change "is in its infancy, very difficult, and perhaps even the wrong question to address," said meteorologist Ryan Maue of private forecasting firm WeatherBell Analytics.
