Jim Fitzpatrick to speak in New Jersey

Excerpt from an article here:
The second major program this weekend is the Meadowlands Festival of Birding in nearby New Jersey. Most of the nearly two dozen events take place tomorrow, but several are also scheduled for Sunday.

A highlight will be an address by bird expert Jim Fitzpatrick, one of just a handful of people who have made a confirmed sighting of the ivory-billed woodpecker, an extremely rare species thought to be extinct until two years ago.
If you hear Fitzpatrick's talk, please let me know via email or a comment. I'd like to find out how many lies are told, and I'm also interested in the audience's reaction.

So are you unequivocally accusing the Cornell team of lying?

Yes.

He's far from the only one at this point.

Ah yes, Jim Fitzpatrick, who did not use his binoculars to look at the bird because it would have taken too long to focus. I guess that 98.5% sure now = 100%.

Tom, would you unequivocally label the Cornell team as incompetent?

For those interested, Frank Virazzi has posted a rather difficult to follow message to the NJ Bird listserv that suggests soon-to-be breaking reports about birds somewhere in the East (SC or FL) "according to Jim Fitzpatrick" and then goes on to speculate about the probable population size of the species in 1940 (contra Tanner's estimate from that year)...

Just to add my own perspective: we have received several promises from 3rd hand sources about supposed records that will be presented (with documentation??) "sometime." Please. If the bird has been found, why not just provide the incontrevertable evidence and stop this ridiculous beating around the bush?

Is it really anything more than hopeful thinking to try to tease the ornithological world with talk of "a pair here and two there" when nothing (not even the existance of a single individual) is supported by evidence? This is called "religion" in most circles. Faith-based ornithology indeed!

My Two Cents

My god! They are all over! They are worse than zombies. Birdchick was right. They will peck our eyes out. Run, people, run.

How could I be such a fool to not believe.
