Australia - Cold weather smashes records
Yesterday, Thredbo reached a high of -6.4 degrees, the coldest maximum recorded in New South Wales for 31 years. Last night, Cabramurra's minimum fell to a 12 year low of -6.8 degrees. Coastal locations also felt the cold with Montague Island's mercury levelling out at three degrees last night, their coldest June night in 37 years. [Via Global Freeze]
From Sweden, A New Hypothesis On The Popularity of AGW « The Unbearable Nakedness of CLIMATE CHANGE
Runaway costs of health care, medication and care for a rapidly aging population have sent the entire political class in a treasure hunt – they must quickly find a new tax revenue source. In the taxation of carbon dioxide, they believe they have found the solution. Through an unprecedented disinformation campaign following Lex Luthor’s principle: “The more fear you create, the greater the change”, they will lead us into enthusiastically accepting a sharp rise in the tax burden in the belief that we are saving the world.
A bogus story - Oil demand falls as energy suppliers go green
Demand for oil fell during 2008 for the first time in 15 years, it has been revealed, as more energy suppliers look to the potential of green energy.

According to figures released by energy giant BP, global demand for oil dropped at its sharpest rate since 1982 last year, with demand from developing economies overtaking that of more economically powerful nations.

While the global recession will have had an impact on the fall in demand, another reason behind the dip could be the impact of green initiatives by energy suppliers and increasing pressure from governments to introduce cheap energy that is environmentally-friendly.
