PLYMOUTH, CA - Extended cold and wet weather in the Sierra foothills has kept wine grapes from coming into bloom on time.

In the 25 years Crippen has worked as a winer maker, he has never seen weather like this.

"(This season) is the first one I've see that's had a weather pattern that's been so cool, so late," said Crippen. "The more heat, the faster these (grape vines) are going to grow."

It’s a non-metallic solid element coming from the Latin word carbo meaning coal. He is actually talking about CO2, which is a gas. Carbon is a much better political term because people associate it with coal and especially soot – clearly dirty and undesirable.
