Europe warned at climate talks in Bonn on Wednesday that efforts to forge a new global pact to avert environmental disaster were in danger of floundering, and some pointed fingers at China.

Germany will harvest 2.870 million hectares of winter wheat in summer 2012, down 9.5 percent on the year after heavy frosts damaged sowings, Germany's statistics office said on Monday.

Residents of St. Paul in the Pribilof Islands are facing the possible loss of much reindeer meat and income from sales this summer. KUCB reports they fear the harsh winter has killed off as much as three-quarters of a herd that had more than 500 animals.

With three harsh winters from 2008 through 2010, North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department has cut the amount of deer licenses available in 2012 to 65,300 permits. That’s 40 percent less than the amount of licenses issued in 2011 and the fewest licenses issued in North Dakota since 1988.
