Olympic season begins with exceptional early snow
WHISTLER, BC. - Whistler Blackcomb's Olympic season will begin ahead of schedule as the resort opens for skiing and riding on Saturday, November 14 - 12 days earlier than planned. More than 118 centimetres (46 inches) of fresh snow has fallen on the mountains in the past seven days and the opening weekend snow base already sits at 100 centimetres (39 inches). We're likely to get some cold, snowy weather sooner, according to Bill Jacquemin, head of the Connecticut Weather Center in Danbury.The Korea Herald : Cold wave to last until Thu.
But because we had such a cool, wet spring and summer, we're in for a drier and warmer winter overall, right? Wrong.
"Our indicators are that we're in for a pretty hefty winter," Jacquemin said last week. "Colder and heavier snow storms."
Colder and heavier than what? Last winter, he said, and you remember what that was like. Sub-zero temperatures in January and lots of snow.

The unusually early snow in northern China that began Nov 9 has killed at least 32 people and affected more than 9.6 million in seven provinces. More than 15,000 buildings have collapsed and nearly 300,000 hectares of farmland destroyed, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said yesterday.
