Congressional Briefing

A new Ivory-bill update from the US Fish and Wildlife Service is available here (PDF format).

There's not much new information (but there is another good picture of a guy in a ghillie suit).

Under the heading "Congressional Briefing", it says this:
Briefings were held this fall for staff members of the Senate and House Interior Appropriations Subcommittees. Additional briefings for staff members from the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the House Resources Committee took place in mid-January.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think the whole camoflage thing is over-rated? I've been birding for about 20 years, seen over 650 different species, and never wore camo. I've had Pileateds feeding over my head, I've had other birds within touching distance and they never seemed overly bothered by my sensible green shirt and khaki pants. Camoflage on birders just seems silly. I can see the usefulness for still hunting turkey or deer, but birding? How is a 'shrub' walking around carrying a camcorder less conspicuous than a person in muted colors?

I'm sorry but...

maybe he should be wearing a great big beetle larvae suit instead with his butt sticking out of a rotten log :)
