Vancouver: Cold weather plagues triathlon world championships

canadaeast.com - Swim portion of triathlon age-group world championships scrapped
The cancellation marked the first time in International Triathlon Union history that the swim portion was cancelled at the world championships. The swim had already been shortened to 1,100 metres from 1,500 metres due to chilly morning water temperatures that dipped to 12.5 C.

There were no scheduled changes to Sunday's under-23 and elite races.

Cold weather has plagued the event since it began Thursday, with several cases of hypothermia reported Friday and extra medical facilities put in place in anticipation for the weekend's races.
