The School of Sustainability currently has 55 enrolled graduate students and more than 300 undergraduate majors. Councillor Ed Smith's heart was in the right place the other day when he distributed unopened water bottles at a meeting where a bottled water ban was on the agenda. The bottles contained labels (with spelling errors -- for the record, Ed, it is becomes it's, not its) stating the clear liquid "tastes and looks like water" but, in fact, was a "revolutionary new product" guaranteed to "eliminate global warming and bring peace to the Middle East."

A conflict of interest prevented Smith from voting on the proposed ban, but that didn't stop him from poking fun at his strident and occasionally self-righteous colleagues. Good on him.
