Councillor Ed Smith's heart was in the right place the other day when he distributed unopened water bottles at a meeting where a bottled water ban was on the agenda. The bottles contained labels (with spelling errors -- for the record, Ed, it is becomes it's, not its) stating the clear liquid "tastes and looks like water" but, in fact, was a "revolutionary new product" guaranteed to "eliminate global warming and bring peace to the Middle East."

A conflict of interest prevented Smith from voting on the proposed ban, but that didn't stop him from poking fun at his strident and occasionally self-righteous colleagues. Good on him.
