India's spending priorities: $4 billion annually for warships, $0.2 billion for forests

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India will spend some $200 million to protect its forests and will announce how much carbon emission is being captured by its green cover, the environment minister said on Friday.

Admiral Sureesh Mehta, chief of naval staff, said the navy would spend more than Rupees 200bn ($4bn, €3bn, £2.5bn) a year on new capabilities, with about 60 per cent devoted to acquisitions of naval hardware.
