I blame global warming! Here in the Detroit area, we just missed setting the all-time 123-year old record for coldest July 18 by 2 degrees F. Other areas set records. From the National Weather Service, here are some temperature records some of which were simply shattered [by up to 7 degrees], not just broken, for yesterday, July 18...
