Eco Centre director Jake Hollyfield said: "We have had a funding shortfall for some time and have been trying to ensure that the impact is minimal.
"We have been unable to raise additional funds, we have to be cautious and take a decision about how to weather the storm. All the departments are underfunded.
"It's frustrating because climate change is at the top of everyone's agenda at the moment."
Mr Hollyfield confirmed that three people had been given notice of redundancy.
