Cincinnati Meteorologist Rich Apuzzo: Temperature and sunspot records threatened!
Just when you think temperatures are finally getting back up to normal levels we have a weekend like this past one, which featured near-record cold yet again. The high on Saturday was only 71 degrees, and the old record for the coldest high temperature was 68 degrees. On Sunday we only did one better with a high of 72 as clouds remained across the area along with a few sprinkles. The cold continued into this morning with lows in the low to mid 50s, just 3 to 5 degrees from the record low of 50 from 1942. Not surprisingly, we’re now running more than 110 degrees below normal for August and about 450 degrees below normal for the summer!

The puzzle consists in the question of why Americans have so willingly swallowed all the rest of our President’s guff about his failed "stimulus" to the economy or fashionable anguish about global warming and the absurd, job-killing "cap and trade" legislation designed to deal with it.

Climate-change negotiations between the U.S. and China are progressing ahead of scheduled global talks in Copenhagen this December, with both countries promising cooperation over clean-energy technology. But China will not back a deal that limits its carbon emissions, contending that such restrictions might impair economic development necessary to alleviate poverty, analyst Elliot Diringer said. The country is more likely to support measures such as boosting fuel economy of vehicles and boosting efficiency at power plants, Diringer added. Bloomberg (08/24)
