How do you reconcile the early snow in Minneapolis, ski resorts already opening in Nevada, and that August chill in North Dakota with expert warnings about a warming climate?

You don’t. Why? The Earth isn’t warming right now, is why. It may even be cooling down somewhat.

The discussion will be led by Donnie Barmore, and will look at various aspects of the futile effort by Brown to rally slaves to revolt against the U.S. government and society in a time when slavery was as divisive a social issue as abortion or global warming is today.
Gore upbeat on climate bill
Former Vice President Al Gore shared his optimism about the "shifting momentum" of the climate change debate with about 500 environmental journalists Friday in Madison.

"We're very close to that political tipping point," Gore said at the Society of Environmental Journalists annual conference at the Madison Concourse Hotel. "Never before in human history has a single generation been asked to make such difficult and consequential decisions."

He said he expects the Senate to pass a carbon emissions reduction bill before a December United Nations conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Record snowfall, cold hit area
Winter came early for Central Nebraska this year.

Both weather forecasters and the public were surprised as Central Nebraska was blanketed with record snowfall and cold temperatures. Some areas of Howard, Sherman and Custer counties received 10 to 14 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service in Hastings and North Platte. Daytime highs Saturday were more than 30 degrees below average temperatures for this time of year.

Areas of Lincoln County recorded more than 17 inches of snow.
