Columbia Suspends Environmental Journalism Program : CJR
For the first time since it was created fourteen years ago, Columbia University’s highly regarded dual-degree graduate program in environmental journalism will not be accepting applications for next academic year.

In a letter to faculty at the Graduate School of Journalism, the Department of Environmental Sciences, and the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, the program directors cited falling employment in the field, the rising costs of education, and a lack of financial aid for students as the reasons for their decision...
... According to Kastens’ most recent records, none of the nine graduates in the last three years has found a full-time staff job in journalism; although many have landed coveted internships and other are happily freelancing.

WETZSTEIN: Birth control seen as 'green' - Washington Times
What caught my eye are three reports that conclude that people are the problem. Basically, they say we're gasbags. We exhale carbon dioxide (CO2), which has been deemed a worrisome greenhouse gas. We also breed too often.
Global Warming May Spur Increased Growth In Pacific Northwest Forests
Overall, forest productivity could increase about 7 percent annually in forests west of the Cascade Range and 20 percent in forests east of them, in conclusions based on one climate scenario that largely reflects current trends of energy use, globalization and economic growth.
