Layers of editors and fact-checkers fail: News media fall for climate-change hoax
Even this White House wouldn’t make that kind of amateurish mistake.

That can’t be said for news outlets like the Washington Post, New York Times, CNBC, and especially Reuters, who originally reported on it. That kind of an about-face by the USCC should have set warning bells ringing in newsrooms. What was the likelihood of the USCC not only backing cap-and-trade but also demanding a new carbon tax on top of it? And how long would it have taken for someone to look at the USCC website to confirm the information? Even the slowest of connections would take no longer than a minute for the page to load – or to notice the difference in the URLs.

Levitt and Dubner have learned that attempts to become a zero-carbon society are unrealistic. But if you don’t agree with global warming orthodoxy, you face personal attacks. The Freakonomics authors' sin was to consider approaches to address global warming that don't involve quixotic quests to change the behavior of nearly 7 billion people.

Like Waxman-Markey, Boxer-Kerry would expand the control the government has over the American economy, businesses, and individuals. It would have little impact on reducing global warming but would significantly depress our economy. One wonders if the purpose of the Boxer-Kerry bill is really just to give the U.S. something to take to Copenhagen for the United Nation's Climate Change Conference in December.

High-cost policies with low-impact results are not in America's best interests, so we should postpone both bills and think through more clearly our desired energy policies.

Be bold, hold your childrens school accountable, find out with which sort of eco-terror they may be trying to indoctrinate your children, confront the school and the school board. Make it known that, as a parent and a taxpayer, you will not allow their unsubstantiated, non-science, scare tactics to be forced upon impressionable young minds. Educate your children with the facts and make sure they are comfortable standing up to false authority, knowing that they have your support.
