BBC - Ethical Man blog: Why micro wind turbines don't work
It leads to a dispiriting conclusion. Wind is, at best, only a very partial solution to the problem of how to generate low-carbon energy.
The Dog Ate my Data: RAW v ADJUSTED GHCN Data
Just out of interest I decided to plot the raw temperature data for my home city of Brisbane, Australia from the GISS (ie the raw GHCN data) against the homogenized or adjusted GISS GHCN data. The temperature sensor is located at the Brisbane Eagle Farm Airport which is now our busy main international airport. The data used is the series available from 1950 to 2008. I have aniumated the result to highlight the difference.

As you can see the raw data shows a downward trend of about -0.6 C per century. The unadjusted data however shows an opposite trend of +0.6 C per century. Intuitively as the airport grew from a quiet strip to a busy international jet airport one would think the more recent data would be adjusted downwards for the heat island effect. Instead we see that the data prior to 1978 is adjusted down and the data in recent times was adjusted up.
Global warming, loyalty oaths, and Climategate's smoking gun
However we have a winner in the Dim Bulb category for stupidest reaction to Climategate, the UK's Met Office. One week after doing an absolutely brilliant thing--announcing they will essentially rebuild the temperature records to eliminate doubt that the Climategate scientists had corrupted or lost it, they throw away all their brownie points by circulating a petition supporting the global warming position and asking scientists to sign it.
Don't miss this » UN Security Stops Journalist’s Questions About ClimateGate
A Stanford Professor has used United Nation security officers to silence a journalist asking him “inconvenient questions” during a press briefing at the climate change conference in Copenhagen.

Professor Stephen Schneider’s assistant requested armed UN security officers who held film maker Phelim McAleer, ordered him to stop filming and prevented further questioning after the press conference where the Stanford academic was launching a book.

Flashback: Scientist Schneider who boasted he could 'slaughter' skeptics in debate backs off... -  Climate Depot
Professor Stephen Schneider of Stanford University, a prominent proponent of man-made global warming fears, appears to be backing off of his boast that he could "slaughter" skeptical scientists in a global warming debate. In a May 24, 2009 interview, Schneider publicly boasted any skeptical scientist would be "slaughtered in public debate" against him.

But after many dissenting scientists happily took up the debate challenge, it now appears Schneider is shying away from any such debate.
