OTTAWA — Environment Minister Jim Prentice says he doesn't expect the United States to act this year on a cap-and-trade system to control climate change and probably not next year, either.

"At this point, my assessment is that it's unlikely that the U.S. Senate will introduce or pass cap-and-trade legislation in this year, possibly, even unlikely, next year," Prentice told the Senate committee on energy, the environment and natural resources.
