In a lecture at the university's business school this week, he said New Zealanders needed to reduce their carbon footprint from nearly 20 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per person to two tonnes by 2050.

Nancy Pelosi’s visit buoys environmental groups - The Globe and Mail
U.S. Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave environmental activists assurances she remains passionately committed to battling climate change, but stopped short of endorsing their campaign to limit development of Alberta’s oil sands.
...
Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Markey said they are both personally committed to reducing North America’s reliance on fossil fuels, and the Canadian activists saw that as a clear signal oil sands producers will have to reduce their environmental impact, even as the United States drives to reduce demand for their product.

However, neither Ms. Pelosi nor Mr. Markey commented on the future of oil sands development, or specifically whether Washington should approve TransCanada Corp.’ Keystone XL pipeline.
