Washington apple pickers push to beat cold weather
WENATCHEE, Wash. -- Apple harvest is in full swing throughout central Washington as growers rush to get fruit picked before weather turns cold.

It could be more of a crunch than usual this year since the crop is seven to 10 days late because of a cool, wet spring.

The cities of Vicksburg, Greenville and Greenwood are just a few locations that all broke record low temperatures with lows of 35 degrees in Vicksburg, 36 degrees in Greenville and a near freezing temperature of 33 degrees in Greenwood.

This was actually the second consecutive morning of record breaking low temperatures in Greenwood. The low temperature of 34 degrees Monday morning also set a new record low for this location.
UN agency seeks to boost health services in Afghan province cut off by harsh winter
5 October 2010 – The United Nations health agency is partnering with authorities in Bamiyan to increase services for people living in remote areas of the northern Afghan province, which is often inaccessible for months at a time due to harsh winter conditions.

Several districts, including Yakawlang, Panjab, Waras and Kahmard, are cut off by poor weather, which hampers health service delivery and puts the lives of hundreds of thousands of Afghans at risk, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
