NWS announces Iowa’s second snowiest December on record
While lesser amounts of snow have been seen into the month of January, last week the NWS announced that a bitterly cold arctic airmass combined with light winds at about 5 mph produced wind chills in the range of 20-30 below zero.

A 14-year-old boy died of exposure while walking home from a friend's house in the southwestern Alaska village of Kipnuk, Alaska State Troopers said.

The temperature was 50 degrees below zero, with winds up to 70 mph, local NBC station KTUU reported.
