A city trader accused the European commission tonight of running a "Mickey Mouse" carbon-trading scheme after some traders lost heavily on the market owing to a botched trading statement.

The commission is already under fire over an entirely separate fraud inquiry that has closed parts of the EU's emissions trading scheme, which is seen by many as crucial to tackling climate change.

"This is a significant mistake on the part of the European commission. Some traders have lost a lot of money today. If I want a Mickey Mouse market, I'll go to Disneyland," one trader told Reuters.

The cattle deaths in Vietnam could be catastrophic for the nation’s mostly rural populations. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, 74 percent of Vietnam’s population lives in rural areas, with 65 percent depending agriculture for their income.

Inhofe Urges EPW Oversight Hearings of Ethanol Policy
"EPA's latest action continues to push too much ethanol too fast," Senator Inhofe said. "Unfortunately, Congress has done little to exercise appropriate oversight of such decisions, despite growing bipartisan concerns over ethanol's mechanical problems and its economic and environmental impacts. Therefore, I am calling on Senator Boxer today to hold hearings on the nation's corn ethanol policies as soon as possible.
