The golf-cart-size robot hasn't communicated with Earth since March 2010, and NASA announced Tuesday (May 24) that it will stop sending daily wake-up calls to Spirit. The cause of death appears to be hypothermia; extreme cold likely damaged the rover's electronics after it lost power during the Martian winter of 2009-2010.

More than 500 dead trees removed in Bozeman
BOZEMAN — City officials say workers in Bozeman have removed more than 500 dead trees so far this spring that failed to recover from a cold snap and are replanting trees in some areas while also offering home owners $100 replacement tree vouchers.

City Forester Ryon Stover tells the Bozeman Daily Chronicle that the trees died as a result of an October 2009 cold snap that saw temperatures plummet from 80 degrees to below zero in about a week.
