Redding weather: Two record lows this week

Redding Municipal Airport temperatures had dropped to 30 degrees just before 6 a.m., setting a new record low for today's date. The old record of 31 degrees was set in 1979 at Fire Station 4 on South Bonnyview Road.

Today's is the second record-low temperature for the date set in Redding this week. On Tuesday the airport bottomed out at 31 degrees.

Ted Roosevelt IV, chair of the C2ES board, said: "We don't have a good price signal on carbon, and we need it." Cap-and-trade is dead, if only because of public distrust of Wall Street, he said. The debt crisis facing the federal government could create an opening for a carbon tax, he suggested: "We have very severe fiscal problems. Maybe a price signal and addressing the fiscal problems can be combined."
