Climate scientist admits stealing docs from conservative think tank | Fox News

Marc Morano, publisher of the popular Climate Depot blog, told FoxNews.com that Gleick’s revelation of his activities could ruin his career.

"Climate activists have been frustrated for years at their inability to convince the public and Washington to 'solve' global warming. So Gleick took it upon himself to reverse this trend," Morano said.

"He instead did massive harm to the cause he holds so dear."

Steve Zwick, the managing editor of Ecosystem Marketplace, called Gleick “a good man, frustrated by years of obfuscation and distortion” and said “he puts truth above self-interest.” At DeSmogBlog, which published the Heartland documents, Richard Littlemore called him a whistleblower (a term generally reserved for someone working within an organization who brings wrongdoing to light).

Every day, countless organizations spread misinformation aimed at delaying the action needed to avoid destroying a livable climate, which will cause billions to suffer — and needlessly, since every major independent study makes clear that the cost of action is incredibly low.

Peter Gleick's alleged crime : Class M

Another day, another distraction from the real issue at hand. Yes, a hitherto respectable member of the climate science community, MacArthur fellow, and all-round good guy has admitted appropriating someone's identity to obtain private records of a climate-denial think tank. Was this wrong? Yes, although no more so than was the ostensible betrayal of trust on the part of a long list of whistleblowers. Daniel Ellsberg comes to mind. And he is now remembered as "an icon of truth-telling."

Peter Gleick cancels plans to join the board of the Oakland-based National Center for Science Education - San Jose Mercury News

"I'm very sad, because I was so looking forward to working with Peter," said NCSE executive director Eugenie Scott in an interview Tuesday. "He will continue to make an important contribution to climate science. This is a temporary setback. His abilities have not been challenged, but he has admitted to an ethical lapse. We will be seeking a board member of comparable status."
