Harold Ambler on CO2 as a sieve, not a blanket (from his book Don't Sell Your Coat)

CO2 absorbs heat only along limited bandwidths, and the bandwidths in which it absorbs are already largely covered by other greenhouse gases, water vapor and nitrous oxide among them. The idea that CO2 is a "blanket" capturing nearly all heat trying to leave the Earth is false. It has more in common with a heat "sieve," and is up in the atmosphere with other sieves with similar size holes at similarorientations.
