Scarborough's Pauline Browes said she accepts the federal government's decision to kill a panel on creating a sustainable future for Canada which Browes has served on for almost six years.

Browes' long history with the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy goes back to its creation in 1988, when Browes was a Progressive Conservative MP.

As Canada's junior environment minister, she said, she attended its meetings. "I'm not happy about this, but I understand why this decision was made," she said this week in an interview.

"I can see that this organization has outlived its usefulness."

She says she is surprised that her position on climate change has become a news story since she is only saying now what she has said in the past and will continue to say in the future.
