Gore the Uniter: Not happy that Walker somehow got over 53 percent of the vote while allegedly only representing 1% of the people

Al Gore: Scott Walker is ‘extreme,’ 'divisive' - Patrick Gavin - POLITICO.com

Asked if the recall — and the hoopla surrounding it — was a sign of today’s polarizing climate, Gore said, “Well, I hope that we can get away from divisiveness, but as Billy Joel sang, we didn’t start the fire. The actions of Governor Walker in pursuing a very extreme, hard-right-wing divisive agenda really set the stage for this.”

Gore also gave his take on new voter ID laws.

“They’re also racist because they are aimed at African-Americans and Hispanic Americans, predominantly,” he said. “This whole effort represents an assault on democracy itself and it’s a very cynical, well-planned strategy that goes back quite a few years.”

Regarding the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, Gore called for a constitutional amendment to reverse it.

“I’m fully aware of how difficult that process is and how it should only be used as a last recourse, but having looked at the legal analyses of this problem, I don’t see any alternative,” Gore said. “It’s a horrible decision that is wrecking our democracy.”

“Our democracy has been hacked, to use a computer term. It is no longer working in the best interests of the average person, middle class families. It is working for the 1 percent, by the 1 percent, of the 1 percent and people are waking up to this and it’s got to change.”
