EU on CO2 cuts: "25% is not reality, it is wishful thinking”

Bangkok 2012 - EU signals it will not adopt 30% emissions target
The European Union appears unlikely to adopt tougher targets for carbon emissions this year after an official at the UN climate talks in Bangkok was quoted as saying further cuts were ‘wishful thinking’.
...a report from the PushEurope campaign group reveals that at an informal session of the UN talks currently taking place in Bangkok an EU official said: “25% is not reality, it is wishful thinking.”
...
If this is now an official EU policy it will come as a blow to climate commissioner Connie Hedegaard, who has been a vocal supporter of adopting a more ambitious goal.
...
But where the EU leads others [allegedly] follow, particularly on key issues such as the Kyoto Protocol, emissions trading and efficiency standards, which is why the bloc’s policy pronouncements are so important.
2007: Live Earth Seeks Carbon Emissions Cut of 90 Percent by 2050
Gore said, "If we are going to solve this crisis, we have to commit, and we have to do it now. Live Earth will ask people across the world to commit to changes in their lives and to move other people, communities, companies and governments to reduce our carbon output by 90 percent by 2050 and ensure there's a new, global treaty on climate change by 2009."
2007: Boxer: 90% CO2 Cuts May Be Necessary - The Daily Green
"We''re learning as time goes on, and more and more reports come out, the dire nature of this issue," Boxer said, referring to scientific reports showing the speed of global warming's effects on polar caps and glaciers accelerating beyond what scientists had projected. "My own bill goes to 80 ... We all need to look at this new number (90%), which appears as if it''s on target, because obviously the developed countries will have to do a little more than the others."
