Some of the discussion appeared on Birdforum recently. Piltdownwoman wrote this:
...The bounty idea is GREAT_.We need a high bounty for identifiable photos and or videos of this bird. CLO has spent millions, USFWS has spent millions. There could easily be a team of video reviewers set-up to review the videos/photos, standards could be set a priori. It is a great idea, and one that has been tossed around in the skeptic world for a long time...Piltdownwoman also posted this:
...There are other people working on the Prize idea as we write. One of the ideas is to eliminate the photo/video reward, and have the reward for information that leads to the discovery of an individual or group. That is an interesting approach, as it eliminates the hoaxing, eliminates the need for lots of expensive video equipment, and is indisputable...I think this is a very good idea. (Previously, I wrote about the subject here).
What do you folks think?

The believers hate the idea, although it was suggested by one of their own, the very same person who brought us that fishy. Their general complaints are that it would destroy habitat and cause problems with private property owners. Some suggested it would encourage collecting....but to a one they hated the idea.
I think it is great. There is already an informal bounty, and that is driving folks like Fishcrow to go look. If this bird is found, it will be worth thousands of dollars to the finder. Our problem here is that folks like CLO decided they could be judge and jury, evaluate their own video evidence and ram it through publication without getting it vetted by bird identification experts.
This is creating all sorts of bogus claims that are really polluting the information. Heck, if CLO can claim THAT is an IBWO, what about THIS(enter Fishcrow video)!
I toss this out to start the discussion..
The prize goes to specific information that leads to the discovery of an IBWO.
A team of 9, the vote needs to be unanimous, no tapes in the field, no harassing PIWO at the nest, no private property without permission of the owner. The usual caveats for good field behavior.
The location must be revealed and be searchable by the team, or their field lackeys.
There is already far too much motivation to find an ivory-bill and that is precisely what got us into the mess we're in...too much motivation, not too little.
What's missing is a financial downside to being wrong.
Until the CLO board and development wing see a financial downside to the support for bogus claims, the bogus claims will persist.
This site keeps coming back to money in various forms. OK then, look at the money... When CLODs are embarrassed to be associated with this mess, the board, if it has any spine will let Fitzcrow know. That's just how non-profits work.
We all know some CLODs. Here's a list...

I met a guy on the trail on Dagmar WMA one day. He was a Microsoft millionaire. He had $7000 worth of camera on his neck. He believed that if he got THE shot he'd be on the Today show, and maybe, just maybe, meet Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton and get laid. I'm REALLY hoping he was just kidding. I told him, as cool as we all think the IBWO is, it ain't gonna get him anywhere near Paris's thong. (personally, I can't imagine WANTING to get near that).
Buuut,
It does stop the endless self-vetted banter. Submit the record, see if it passes.
It's simple anyway.
Two new characters to add to this blog. Microsoft Millionaire and Paris Hilton.
Whoooohooooo..
I made my money on soft ware.
I bought the camera on a tear.
I'll get the picture just you wait.
and Paris Hilton I will date.
She'll say "Oh Bobby, that's quite a still!
I see the wings AND the bill
It's not all blurry like Fishcrow,
so now you'll bed this skanky ho."
Perhaps no money need change hands.
just young and hot IBWO fans.
They'll bed the taker of the pic.
be they rich, or just a hick.
A bounty on an extinct bird? Hmmm.... what bad thing could happen here?
How about a gazillion lawsuits over fishcrow videos? Clo could make a claim. Aterall, their paper is "peer reviewed". How about Ivory Bill psychics do they get to share in the reward? How about the Ivory Bill Whisperer?
I'm not saying it wouldn't be fun, mind you! I just wouldn't want to be the one liable for the bounty.
As an alien from a far away planet
I don’t know a Lord God Bird from a gannet
But we do not unleash mercenary squads
Or put bounties upon our gods
Kneep….kneep…
To find the Lord God Bird
A bounty might be preferred
But why not cut out the middleman
Just give to the bird’s biggest fan
The man who’s name is fishcrow
Lest it go to any Curly, Larry or Moe
For those of you who can't get enough of the CLO search. Here's another report. Very exciting! One lady on the team saw three IBWOs!
CLO Search Report
I refuse to add Paris (you're not hot) Hilton to the FanZone List and Microsoft is permanently barred just for thinking that she is.

Oh my God, THREE sightings plus bark scaling, cavities, kent calls, THERE must be more than 1000's of breeding pairs.

We just can't see them for some alien reason.
Well, I still like the bounty for the "shut up and submit the record" value of it.
But now I see the Skanky Paris poem and methinks I know this is why Buddah put me on this Earth
