Australia: Victorian fishermen reject CSIRO warnings - 07/10/2008
A report from the CSIRO warning the fishing industry about the dangers of climate change has frustrated Victorian fishermen.

Chair of the Lakes Entrance Fishermen's Cooperative, Peter Clarke, says too little is known about the implications at the moment, and fisherman don't know how to prepare.

"We still really don't even know what's going on at the present time out there," he says.

"There's so many variables in the ocean. Fish stocks come and go for whatever reason and the scientists have a lot of trouble at the moment trying to identify what's happening.

"I think it's be very difficult for us to take any steps or measures at this stage, until we know more about the climate change issue.

"To do anything, it's a very difficult one for us to even try and think about."
