Calgary: This year’s cold weather has left two metres of frost in the ground

15 Olympic sized swimming pools worth of water to go down the drain in Calgary
CALGARY – The city recommending residents of certain communities to continually run their taps to avoid freezing water lines is rubbing some Calgarians the wrong way.

The city sent letters to 1,000 homes at risk for possible frozen water pipes requesting them to turn on their taps and let a small stream of water run from now until the end of April.

This year’s cold weather has left two metres of frost in the ground and many water pipes servicing residential areas are in danger of freezing.
