Something to note is the decay in the strength of successive El Nino events. Here is the plot from 1997-even it shows a mild downward trend. Note the El Ninos in 1998, 2004, 2005, and 2010 showing a decay in strength. The El Nino of 2010 was quite a bit weaker than the one of 1998. This decay is consistent with the theory of Don Easterbrook about the PDO and coming cooling climate. At the very least, these data demonstrate that claims the earth continues to warm up are completely fraudulent.
