Email 4093, Mar. 2005, keeping out the riff-raff: Madhav Khandekar applies for RMS fellowship; Phil Jones says "I'd be wary of accepting him" because of Khandekar's association with "greenhouse skeptics"

Email 4093

Looking at his 'application' form, he doesn't have that many real references. He looks to be retired. Being an editor on Climate Research is something I wouldn't put on my CV. It is a discredited journal in the field. Most of the people he puts in the email (the 4 in the US and the other 5 are mainly greenhouse skeptics - although Changnon, Landsea and Pielke are mainstream climatologists). So, I'd be wary of accepting him as a fellow.

Madhav Khandekar

Madhav Khandekar is a former research scientist from Environment Canada and is presently on the editorial board of the Journal of Natural Hazards (Kluwer). He is an environmental consultant on extreme weather events and a scientist with the Natural Resources Stewardship Project. He has worked in the fields of weather and climate for nearly 50 years and has published more than 120 papers, reports, and book reviews and a monograph on ocean surface wave analysis and modeling (Springer-Verlag 1989). Khandekar is one of the external reviewers for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 1997 Second Assessment Report.
