Obama Defense Dept. Under Fire for Going Green | JunkScience.com

“You’ve bought fuel, blended [bio]fuel for the jets to fly at almost four times the cost of traditional energy,” Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) said to Mabus, referring to the $12 million the Navy is paying for 450,000 gallons of advanced biofuel to power a carrier strike group during exercises off the coast of Hawaii this summer (Greenwire, Dec. 5, 2011). “So in order to make up for that difference, will those planes fly a quarter of the time they would have otherwise flown as part of this exercise?”…

Gleick’s AGU Resignation « Climate Audit

[interesting comment by Steve McIntyre] Gleick was a member of the editorial board of Climatic Change. In early 2004, as a reviewer of a submission by Mann et al, I asked to see supporting data and code. Schneider said that no one had ever made such a request in 28 years. I said that I was. He said that that would require referral to their editorial board. I said – refer it. Jones was also a member of the Climatic Change editorial board and lobbied hard against providing either. They decided that Mann had to provide supporting data but not code. I insisted on getting supporting data. Mann et al withdrew the paper. However, as reported previously, they had done academic cheque kiting, citing this submission in Jones and Mann, 2004, which was accepted and then used the latter paper as reference.
