Nancy Pelosi and the other national Democratic Party leaders bought and paid for Maffei well before this. As has been reported in this paper, the bulk of Maffei's campaign financing came from outside of Central New York, both before his election and even more so since. There is no chance of him opposing anything his money people support.

He showed that clearly with his vote on the cap-and-trade bill. He clearly knew, and admitted as much, that it provided short shrift to Central New York, but he voted for it anyhow.

On marquee issues — health care, cap and trade, and the recession — Democratic leaders are unwilling to listen to the legitimate concerns of center-leaning voters and business leaders who made possible their victories in 2008.
