Since releasing the audio of the discussion, Smith has received an apology from Devolin, who said Taylor was speaking for himself only and should never have engaged in such a discussion in the first place.

"It's clear that what he said was not my view and I think in any organization ... people that work there don't necessarily share the view of the boss or the company, but it's not appropriate to share that with people who call in," he said.

Devolin said Taylor is usually a mild-mannered employee who has been with the office for more than five years. He said Taylor felt badly about the incident and that nothing like that would happen again.
