From a radio studio at the Southern Baptist Convention offices in Nashville, Land points to the recent "Climate-gate" scandal as proof skeptics are right. In November, e-mails from the Hadley Climatic Research Unit at Britain's University of East Anglia — a leading climate science program — were leaked online. Some appear to show scientists talking about manipulating data. The British scientists also reportedly tossed out data that backed up their findings.

"I have never heard of scientists destroying data before," Land said. "I think that Climate-gate throws all the whole thing into question.''
The Fiction Science of Global Warming | John Leonard
We are human and therefore prone to mistake. I can forgive my scientist friends the honest error, provided the debate is honest and the facts fairly presented. Using "Mike's Nature Trick" and black-balling honest men with competing opinions isn't fair, honest, or scientific by nature. It is thuggish.

What we need now is more data. To have definitive proof of global warming before we put all of our eggs in the Copenhagen basket seems prudent by any standards. We have seen quite recently how cap and trade in Europe has turned into a billion-dollar industry for swindlers and cheats. Schemes like cap and trade could work if the time is taken to iron out laws and loopholes properly.

More Spin Will Cause, Not Cure, Public Mistrust of Science » Wesley J. Smith | A First Things Blog
Advocates like Chris Mooney view science as a splendid weapon for furthering their political aims, which are shared by many politicized leaders of the science sector. But pushing better spin isn’t the answer to improving public respect for science. Indeed, such tactics are actually counter productive. The more scientists listen to the likes of Chris Mooney–the more they use sound bites, denigrate opponents, stifle heterodox views, and employ the other tools of big time PR–the less the public will trust them.
