Explorers Club awards this weekend

As pointed out in the New York Times, some "rediscoverers" of the "Ivory-bill" will be honored this weekend:
The President's Award for Conservation will be presented to Tim Gallagher, Bobby Harrison, and Gene Sparling, who made headlines this year for rediscovering the ivory-billed woodpecker, which was previously thought to be extinct.
(I don't know for sure, but it seems likely that the "President" here is the President of the Explorers Club, ie this guy, rather than the President of the United States.)

This story just gets better and better. Shouldn't they be getting an award for seeing a Blurry Ivory-billed Woodpecker?

I only wish it was President Bush giving the award. That would just be so awesome. The Bigfoot President presenting the Bigfoot award to the discoverers of an avian bigfoot.

The Da Vinci Code has nothing on this story! This will be a blockbuster. The movie will be a veritable cinematic Jaws for newage believers. Postmodernism Lives!

Where is Tom Wolfe when we need him?

This would top the "Electric Acid Cool-aid Test". I mean can you imagine his handling of these "Merry Pranksters"?

If Wolfe hasn't been following these guys around and writing a book, then there can be no god in heaven.
