The Southern Environmental Law Center, which represents the state’s major environmental groups, said in its comments that the bridge could affect habitat for the ivory-billed woodpecker. The bird once was thought to be extinct but since has been rediscovered in Arkansas.

As someone who is against developing wild lands as much as possible, this is one thing that worries me about this Ivory-billed flap. I really doubt anyone will come up with real proof, regardless of how much time passes, and in future years developers will trot out this false claim and apply it whenever environmentalists bring up habitat concerns.
