Will the Ivory-bill save the world?

Here's my guess: no.

According to this, Fitz is delivering a keynote lecture tonight:
ARCATA -- “How Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers (and Other Birds) Will Save the World” is the title of the keynote lecture to be given on Saturday by Dr. John W. Fitzpatrick, director of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, for the 11th annual Godwit Days Spring Migration Festival.

Yes, but read his CV notice the subtle shift in emphasis of his accomplishments ... no longer did he lead the team that found the IBWO (arguably the most significant feat in modern bird conservation history), he merely discovered 7 species in the Amazon and saved the FLA scrub jay by getting corporations to lend a hand.

Yes the good Dr. Fitz is fading from the scene. His talk will only use the IBWO as a metaphor - arguing that what it does to the imagination will save the world ... and it can do this even if he did see the last one. Does he show up in Brinkley anymore? The photos of the camo clad searchers no longer include him.

They set a place for him but he no longer comes to dinner

Do any of the original group even tend to the main issue at hand anymore? Yes, it does seem that the original cause has become not that important to them. It seems they spend most all their time promoting their books, at speaking engagements, or working to get another search going in another area to find another one of these "See Me Not Birds" that can generated a wealth of cash flow for those involved.

It has become clear that the only bird that they are really worried about is the Eagle that is on the Dollar bill they are getting from this farce!!!!!!

No, sadly the IBWO will not save the world. But it may just save us from Fitz. At least for a while.
