Are we each entitled to our own set of facts?

Here is an extraordinary TEXBIRDS post. An excerpt (the bold font and italics are mine):
Dear Ivory-billed enthusiast,

Over the last year, many of you have corresponded with me regarding searching for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker in Texas. The search efforts planned by me and HAS have been hampered by many things most notably Hurricane Rita. Since the GCBO has received a substantial grant for this effort we are turning over all out volunteers and information to John and the GCBO. If you had contacted me in the past, interested in searching I strongly encourage you to attend this meeting and contact John.

If you want to talk to me about HAS efforts or Ivory-bills, I'll be at the meeting and I think any one serious about searching should too.

And for the record, I believe more strongly than ever that not only are the reports from Arkansas valid in spite of nay sayers, I am sure there are even more birds in Texas and I believe that John and his volunteers will prove that to the world.

Texas Ivory-bills are fact not fiction.

Not only has Fitz taken down some first rate reputations. Now he's working on the second tier also.

I ain't apologizin' for nothin' to no one, no how.

Fitz played in the Fields of the Lord (God Bird)
He told a tale no one had ever heard
But Carpentario aside
Fitz has nowhere to hide
Science has no use for a video blurred.

No surprise. Combining the words "Texas" and "science" is oxymoronic.

People have no clue how important the power of suggestion can be. If this person was simply asking for people who were curious to see if IBWO were in Texas he would get very different results than what he will get from a search that starts off with the statement "I am sure there are even more birds in Texas and I believe that John and his volunteers will prove that to the world."

Being curious about nature allows you to find out all sorts of things - many of them surprising. Being certain about what is going on before actually beginning the "investigation" means that one is attempting to justify one's certitude rather than discover what is actually occurring.

Is Fred Collins related to Mike Collins? If Fred is so sure about the existence of IBWO, then I'm sure that he himself will be spending considerable time deep in the east Texas bottomland forests during the middle of the summer, right?

Audubon, CLO, and the Nature Consevancy; all bow down to the new Holy Trinity. Thus speakest the Trinity: The Holy Father AKA Lord God Bird traverses the wilds of Texas, Arkansas, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Georgia; forever and ever. Amen.

Let all our syncophants and true believers give praise and money to our glory.

Hey! Who's badmouthing Texas?

Bush wasn't from Texas. He went to Yale!

The Carpinterio Real wants to clear up some facts on Texas, Science and the nature of this story (a story which he has said before, has ripened, fallen, fermeneted, been gnawed by groundhogs and all but disapeared down the memory hole of obscure triva only to be memorialized by some very overlookable people milling around in Brinkley, AR).

It isn't about science it is about society:

ALL the monied aristorcracy of Texas gives to UT but GOes to the NE for education and refinement. This is the essential reality of Texas. Unlike other rural states, its oil wealth enabled its rural people to join society in way that changed the very character of the place. Texas is Texas because it is a satellite campus of New England - the bio science building at Yale is named after none other than Perry Bass. Checkmate.

Ivy and IBWO:

This IBWO story only has credibility because it has IVY draped on it. Fitz is Harvard and Cornell. Prum had to go hide among the mothballs and chromotography equipment because of pressure from the top at Yale ... when we speak of "credentials" and "reputation" we being the things that bring "credibilty" to the IBWO story - we are talking about IVY.

The seminal moment was when Fitz - a Harvard Man, became a believer and signed Cornell onto the programme and put the call into Don Kennedy at Science. We still don't know who loaned the Jet but we can bet that it was either an IVY guy or a guy that wanted to rub hiballs with IVY guys.

This story has faded and fizzled because it is "embarassing" to institutions that purport to hold to the highest standards of rationality.

and now:

I believe the following statement to be true:
"There are AT LEAST as many IBWO in Texas as there are in Arkansas."

Feel free to substitute "Ohio" or "Hawaii" or "China" for Texas ... at this point, I doubt it will change its validity.

Laurance J. - Good luck in Cyprus, I expect to see your pictures and power point presentation in the very near future. Don't forget to ask for a Grant from every gullible US Federal Agency available.

That's Clintonics!

No IBWOs in Arkansas
No IBWOs in Texas

No lie there ;)

I hope Fred Collins will see this post. Fred, It is me Bill Richards, I used to work for you at Moore Auto Parts in Alief 20 something years ago. I am very happy for you that you are doing something you enjoy now. We all used to get a kick out of Fred at work when he would drop everything he was doing at the store and grab his binoculars to see a bird out front. I currently live in Anchorage Alaska which is a great place to watch birds as well.

God Bless you Fred Collins
Your old friend, Bill Richards
