why can't anyone just get a clear video or photo? why does there have to be extensive analysis everytime someone claims to have found this bird? I won't believe until the clear photo or video is presented. Simple as that. Science should also have the same standard.
Dear Mike, since in this country you can believe most anything you want - the believing is the easy part. Now you need to convince other people that your view of reality actually represents reality. That is the hard part. While you clearly idolize (and have an unrealistic view of the CLO's status and credibility) any evidence you produce now will be examined much more carefully because of the CLO/TNC excesses of the past year. I don’t see the IBWO in your picture but that isn’t saying there isn’t one there. There might even be an IBWO in the background of a picture I took of my daughter last weekend. But please don’t start all of this “let’s save the habitat” proselytizing based on what you have posted. It really makes conservationists look like complete self-serving idiots and hurts many species that are known to exist.
Hey, if any of you folks post to Birdchat it may be worth asking of Fishcrow what the CLO ornithologists thought of his videos, photos, sound evidence etc.
Methinks we'd find some common ground with the CLOers - I bet everyone thinks his stuff is lame!
BTW: Re: Lab Duck....how did you rule out Great Auk?
"I initially didn't think that I had noticed anything significant about the head--it just appeared to be a featureless black blob. After thinking about it, I realized that this is consistent with an ivorybill. "
Yes, a "featureless black blob" is consistent with IBWO!! You cannot make this stuff up!
(Well, I guess actually he did make it up. I stand corrected.)
I have to believe that the CLO was not supportive of Fishcrow since the Birdchat post states:
"So far, Julie Zickefoose is the only big name in birding and ornithology who has had the courage to offer support."
I am not sure what she actually offered - agreement with his photo interpretation or simply encouragement for his efforts. But then again I am not even sure who she is. I think we are well past thinking that it takes "courage" to support shoddy visual evidence. CLO/TNC made that the order of the day in 2005. Embracing grainy videos now is just jumping on the bandwagon.

"I believe this evidence is conclusive."

This just proves that even older people need mentors.
Fishcrow fishcrow alone in the wood,
Photographig rare birds just as he should,
But Fishcrow, oh no, the focus is off,
and dispite months of trying
we are left
with naught.
I played through the video on Fishcrow's web site. Looks more like a Labrador Duck to me.
Fishcrow, I for one do believe
It’s not hard to conceive
How you did go into the Pearl
And quickly saw more than squirrel
But if I may just give advice
Go back in once more or twice
And please take if you must both dog or dingo
But for heaven’s sake get better vid'yo

My favorite all-time Fishcrow quote is this.
"I initially didn't think that I had noticed anything significant about the head--it just appeared to be a featureless black blob. After thinking about it, I realized that this is consistent with an ivorybill. "

It flew.
Yes I agree this should be phrased properly:
The flight is consistant with labrador duck and inconstintant with great auk.
You skeptics have made it impossible for a blurry blob like video to get published as proof of extinct birds ... I hope you are happy with yourselves.
One of these days us belivers are going to stand up to you and tell you not to do that anymore.
