Any predictions?

Do you have answers to any of these questions?

1. How long will the "Found!" banner remain here at ivorybill.org, and how long will Cornell continue to sell "Found!" merchandise here?

2. What will become of the vast Ivory-bill Recovery Team? According to some sources, that team has (or had) 70 or more members.

Will they continue to spend time and money under the assumption that there are living Ivory-bills to recover? More information on the team is here and here.

3. What will become of the Big Woods Conservation Partnership and their Ivory-bill logo?

4. In the comment thread here, John Wall wrote:
I predict that the Ivorybill "rediscovery" ultimately will become such an embarrassment to those involved that they will deny responsibility and blame each other.
Do you agree?

I agree. Gene the kayaker seems to be the fall guy (see above post), although BobbyandTim would have been a better choice.

Any updates on the IBWO postdoc?

1. Another year or so. They'll redesign the site stressing the natural history of the bird and avoiding mentioning the failure to find one.

2. I'd be willing to bet that some are already being dispersed to new projects. (Some are probably BEGGING to be moved.)

3. Depends upon the money. If they don't have a guarantee funding source, they could just fade away.

4. No. They will stick to their guns until death, but more and more quietly. Their defense will end up being a sort of "I've said everything I have to say", as illustrated by the fact that Fitzpatrick is no longer doing interview. I think that right now they realize they are screwed, and that they're just hoping that this will fade. Wait for a statement some years down the road that the Ivory-billed once again appears to be extinct.

CLO said "We were wrong"
The skeptics said "We forgive you"
The farmers said "To preserve the habitat we'll conserve water"
The Corps of Engineers said "We'll give the money back to the public"

Then I woke up.

I'm eagerly awaiting the IBWO recovery plan due out in September-2006 from FWS. (ref: http://www.fws.gov/ivorybill/recoveryplan.html)

The Big Woulds Conservation Partnership

Would you have thought for a second that we could get this much press and money from a bad video?

Would this be more embarrassing if it was any less profitable?

Would you skeptics please stop raining on our parade and go find a conservation hoax of your own!

Support the Big Woulds!!
