An excerpt:
Just thought I'd pass this along. In a conversation with Don Carrell, one of the other participants in the Texas IBWO search, he related to me a recent incident in which he had heard a series of double raps at close range. When the maker of the sounds showed itself it was...drum roll please...a Pileated Woodpecker. Don is more optimistic than I about the existence of IBWOs and I have no reason to doubt him on this.

It is stunningly obvious that the "true believers" over at BirdForum have never done critical analysis of submitted evidence, as required on a records committee or analyzing reports for acceptance in a quality journal. They just can't grasp that a double rap isn't diagnostic or that there really can be dozens of bad IDs of the same species. It happens all the time.
As for Mike Collins saying that Ivory-billed is "unmistakeable", I have news for him. There is no such bird. Great Blue Herons have been misidentified at hawk watches (i.e. experienced observors) as Bald Eagles more than once. Wouldn't those two species both fall into the category of unmistakeable?
I'm just so glad Mike is back posting on BIRDFORUM. It is such a thrill to watch him spiral out of control. I love all the 'Ignore List' stuff too. It's a badge of honor to be on his ignore list.
Look! Look! I found another Ivory-billed Woodpecker pic on the web! No doubt about it. "The rared-backed (sic) pose, long but fluffy squared-off crest, and extremely long, erect head and neck suggest ivorybill (sic)." I even see some white, just not in the wing.
Fishcrow will be thrilled!
Damn! I thought I'd found another Ivory-billed on the web, but then I realized that it was facing right, so it had to be a Pileated.
Sorry, but it's not blurry enough.
An amazing photo showing two flying ivory bills (both females, if I'm not mistaken) against a beautiful blue sky.

Not blurry enough. Hah! Take this!
Two more Ivorleated Woodpeckers. (The one on the left looks more like a hybrid.)
And yet another.
Researchers find the real source of the kent calls.
Look at this picture , and you will understand why it is so easy to tell Pileated and Ivory-billed apart.
Cornell uses all resources at their disposal to analyze the Luneau video.
To blur things further, is it pie-leated or pill-eated?
Pie-leated, because pile means cap.
Can I join - I'm on his ignore list too !
