Arkansas is being used as a diversion state to attract every Tom, Dick, and Harry while isolated populations of the bird in Illiois, Louisiana, Florida, and Tennessee are increasing slowly but surely sans human interference.
I live in the area, about 50 miles west in Little Rock and I think they should call this festival simply a "Deep Woods/Birding Festival" or something of that sort, highlighting the 1,000 year old cypress trees and numerous birds other than the possible IBW. Migrating geese, other types of woodpeckers, hawks, etc might instill an interest in birding for first-timers. But I guess the name Ivory-bill is more catchy.

At least at an Area 51 celebration you'd get to see people dressed up like figments of the imagination.

There will be NO IBWO festival in Brinkley next year. The listing was a leftover from last when they thought they'd have one.
