In September of 2006, a biologist will announce the discovery of multiple pairs of Ivory-billed Woodpeckers in Florida. Scientists working completely independently have now reported multiple sightings at three sites separated by hundreds of miles. The picture is starting to become clear. The species is extremely difficult to observe, but it is likely that small but interconnected populations are scattered about its range. This hypothesis is consistent with the pattern of reports over the years and with the low probability of survival for small and isolated populations. The "contributor's" IP address was 128.160.53.74--a lot of 128.160 IP addresses are listed here, and those sites seem to be related to this one.
A previous Fishcrow/Wikipedia post is here.

"The species is extremely difficult to observe"
Both Fishcrow and Fitzcrow and friends seem to believe this, but is any woodpecker really that hard to see? In my experience large woodpeckers, and even small woodpeckers, aren't even remotely as difficult to observe as are Black Rails or tapaculos and antpittas in cloudforest. I don't see how these folks ever thought they could fool anyone with nonsense.
Great job spotting the new comment Tom. I missed it on my last visit.
You gotta hand it to Gallagher, Fitpatrick I and II, Harrison, et al; they really know how to handle the media. First tier, second tier, third tier; movies, speaking engagements, books, it's relentless.
I have alot trouble understanding how the media just laps this stuff up without asking any insightful questions.
What are they teaching at these journalism colleges.
Truly disgusting lies.
I wonder how a university would respond if they knew a faculty member was behaving this way.
Many of the journalists writing about the IBWO evidently don't know how to do a basic google search. The only really good article I've seen so far was by John Crewdson in the Chicago Tribune.
I don't understand why people give Mike such a hard time. He has clearly demonstrated an ability to see Ivory-billed Woodpeckers where other people have failed.
Take a look at this image sequence from video Mike shot,

Most people probably can't find an IBWO there (or even a bird for that matter), but Mike can see them. He's a freakin' genius!!!
Fitz and Hill should be honored to have their names associated with Mike's in the wikiwacky. Fitz has also gained the highly sought after honor of the Fitzcrow moniker. I bet Dr. Hill is hoping that his performance will elevate him to that level also. We'll see, you got to earn it baby!
Whoops! I should have posted Mike's image sequence that has the arrows for those of you with poorer powers of observation:

I bet it's humbling to even imagine that someone can see an IBWO there!!!
Can we now call Hill hillcrow or is he merely a hillmyna?
