On the other hand, Jesse Gilsdof over on Birdforum dot Net is now reporting that,

There was a "super secret" (joking) meeting held in S.C. at Congaree several weeks ago. At this meeting put on by Cornell, FWS, and the State of S.C. there was presented several other organisms calls that sound like kent calls with very SLIGHT differences spectrally. This includes blue heron, grey squirrels, crows, and several other organims as well. This is very problematic as the kent calls actually sound very similar and apparently fooled the computers that are going through the arus. Humans listening could apparently hear differences when the calls were put into context.

This makes kent calls to the human ear less reliable as a way to find the bird. However, as I understand it spectrally a difference can still be found if heard in context.

So much for kent calls. Wonder what "several other organisms" could mean? Alien, are you messing with us?

OK, it's official! Mary Scott has just announced on her web page that nine pairs of IBWO have indeed been found in Florida.

We can all go home now. I guess we were wrong. Oh well.

The Ditto-heads of chief skeptic Tom
Say those who find IBWO are wrong

They sit on their duffs and write nasty stuff

In October they'll be proven wrong!

The Commenters on blog Tom
Say give us some evidence strong

Then we'll soon enough be not as tough

But I doubt if October will be our swan song!
